My favorite Children's Book

Walk Two Moons
By Sharon Creech
4th-6th grade level
5 Stars

The most memorable book I read as a child, was Walk Two Moons, by Sharon Creech.  As a young reader, I loved the style of the book.  Much of the plot is revealed to the reader through the main character, Salamanca, as she tells her grandparents a story during a long road trip.  The characters were so easy for me to relate to, it made everything that happened so personal and emotional.

The actual plot was so intriguing for me as a young reader. It was funny, sad, mysterious, emotional and witty.  I rarely had any idea what was going to happen next.  This was the book I chose to read with the Mother-Daughter Book Club my Mom and I were involved in.  After reading the book, there was so much to think about, and so much to take away from it.  This was one of the first books I read that I actually discussed and analyzed, which is one reason why it is so memorable to me to this day.

These are some of my favorite quotes from the book:

"Don't judge a man until you have walked two moons in his moccasins"

"You can't keep the birds of sadness from flying over your head, but you can keep them from nesting in your hair"

"What I have since realized is that if people expect you to be brave, sometimes you pretend that you are, even when you are frightened down to your very bones"

Walk Two Moons had such an influence on me; after reading it, I continued to read all of the Sharon Creech books I could get my hands on, and it was one of the books that really started my love of reading.
